Bear Watching

Admiralty National Monument
"Fortress of the Bears" Tour

bear walkGiven the name Kootznoowoo by the Tlingit Natives, Admiralty Island is The Fortress of the Bears. Admiralty has more than 1600 bears, one of the highest concentrations of brown bears in the world. The island is also rich with marine and bird life. There are more bald eagles on Admiralty than in the entire lower 48 states. While brown bears and eagles are most common on the island, many other creatures make Admiralty their home. Deer, foxes, beavers, otters, and many species of marine life are abundant.

grizzly bearAt Juneau Sportfishing & Sightseeing, we utilize companies that  have designed their tours to be an eco-friendly wilderness experience with an emphasis on low-impact wildlife viewing. Just 15 minutes out of Juneau, your flight takes you over the shores of Admiralty, looking for wildlife in viewable areas. Your pilot will look for wildlife near a lake, beach or river and then will quietly land the aircraft and paddle closer. This enables guests to get out on the floats and view or photograph the wildlife from the safety of the aircraft. Every trip is uniquely different.

Tour is 3 hours in length including time spent on the water viewing wildlife. Available May 10 - September 15.
